From her undergraduate studies to her Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Pharmacy, Dr Natália Marcéli Stephanes has participated in numerous scientific studies in the field of oncology and onco-hematology at the University Hospital of the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil. Her research has focused on understanding the molecular and biochemical bases of malignant neoplasms and investigating safer and more effective therapeutic alternatives.

 

Dr Natália Marcéli Stephanes has also served as an assistant professor of haematology for undergraduate students at the Federal University of Santa Catarina. Additionally, she held the position of professor of Hospital Pharmacy at the Qualificar Technical School in Brazil, where she developed instructional materials for use in the Pharmacy Postgraduate Program at the Leonardo Da Vinci University Center.

 

In addition to her academic experiences, Dr Natália Marcéli Stephanes possesses a strong expertise in commercial pharmacy, with in-depth knowledge of medications, their routes of administration, desired effects, adverse effects, and toxicity.

 

Currently, Dr Natália Marcéli Stephanes works as a Pharmacist at the Health Department of Santa Catarina State, where her role entails providing pharmaceutical scientific consulting services to judges.

What to do if I have accidentally taken two Wellbutrin XL 300 mg tablets? 

If you have accidentally taken two Wellbutrin XL tablets and you feel unwell, immediately seek medical attention. Overdosing on Wellbutrin can be different for different individuals. 

The most important concern with Wellbutrin overdosing is the risk of seizures, as this antidepressant can trigger convulsions even in healthy individuals. Although it is quite rare, it could be more of a possibility at higher doses. 

Other than that, no other side effect affects your health and will most likely subside as the concentration of Wellbutrin drops down in your body. 

What is the maximum recommended dose of Wellbutrin XL per day? 

According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the maximum daily dose of Wellbutrin XL is 450 mg, which is not recommended to take (1). 

Now, if you take two 300 mg Wellbutrin XL tablets, you will definitely exceed the daily dose limit, as your total dose would become 600 mg. However, this dose is still not considered high enough to cause significant side effects. 

Would you be okay after taking two 300 mg Wellbutrin XL tablets? 

If you have no history of seizures and you don’t take any other medication with Wellbutrin which may inhibit its metabolism or increase the risk of seizures, you have nothing to worry about. 

You may experience some side effects, but none of them would possibly send you to the hospital or put your health at risk. However, people are different and they respond differently to medications. 

If you are someone who is at high risk of seizures – like people suffering from epilepsy – or if you’re taking any other medication with Wellbutrin that may affect the way it works, talk to your healthcare provider. 

Side effects associated with taking two Wellbutrin XL 300mg tablets 

Taking two 300mg tablets of Wellbutrin XL can cause side effects that are commonly associated with Wellbutrin. However, these side effects could be more pronounced because of the dosage strength. These include (2):

These side effects may vary from person to person, depending on how much of this antidepressant is taken and if there are any other factors that may put you at risk of increased Wellbutrin-induced side effects. 

Wellbutrin may also cause allergic reactions in some people, including symptoms like redness of the skin, itching, burning sensation, swelling in the throat, feet, or face, and breathing difficulties.

It’s important to report your side effects to your doctor and make sure you avoid future accidental overdoses. Always remember, that proper use of meds is the key to making the most out of them.  

If you struggle with remembering whether or not you have taken your antidepressant, I recommend keeping a pill box. This way, the chances of accidental overdosing will be significantly reduced. If you’re concerned about anything else, reach out to your doctor or pharmacist. 

Wellbutrin may not be suitable for some people, so it is important to talk to your doctor if you have any pre-existing health condition or if you’re pregnant or a breastfeeding mother, as Wellbutrin may affect the availability of breastmilk.
