What are the right directions to take the Prednisone’s 6-day dose pack?

What are the right directions to take Prednisone’s 6-day dose pack?

The right directions to take the Prednisone 6-day dose pack (21 tablets in total) are:

Day 1

You’re supposed to take a total of 6 tablets. The doses are divided as:

  • 2 tablets before breakfast
  • 1 tablet after lunch
  • 1 tablet after dinner
  • 2 tablets at bedtime

Day 2

A total number of 5 tablets is required and the following duration doses are recommended:

  • 1 tablet before breakfast
  • 1 tablet after lunch
  • 1 tablet after dinner
  • 2 tablets at bedtime

Day 3

The number of tablets is reduced to 4 and the doses are adjusted  as follows:

  • 1 tablet before breakfast
  • 1 tablet after lunch
  • 1 tablet after dinner
  • 1 tablet at bedtime

Day 4

In this case, a total number of 3 tablets are taken 3 times a day as follows:

  • 1 tablet before breakfast
  • 1 tablet after lunch
  • 1 tablet at bedtime

Day 5

On the fifth day, you’re supposed to take 2 tablets, twice as follows:

  • 1 tablet before breakfast
  • 1 tablet at bedtime

Day 6

On the last day of your Prednisone dose pack, you are supposed to take the last tablet of the pack before breakfast, and that’s it.

It is always recommended to start the Prednisone dose pack in the morning so that you can take all the tablets properly on time. If you receive your pack later in the evening, I would recommend waiting till the following morning before you start.

However, if you are in extreme need to start your medication, you can take your first day doses with small time intervals and can start the proper schedule from the next day.

Conclusion

It is important to make sure that you take Prednisone in the best possible way. If you are confused or concerned about anything, reach out to your doctor or pharmacist. Prednisone is generally a well-tolerated medication, but it is associated with some side effects.

If you are experiencing side effects of Prednisone, please report them to your healthcare provider. It’s not recommended for someone with a chronic health condition to abruptly stop taking the medication. If it’s not the right choice for you, your doctor will recommend another treatment strategy (1).
