How long after taking Diflucan can you drink alcohol?
You should wait for at least 48-72 hours after your last Diflucan dose before drinking alcohol. The two should not be taken at the same time as alcohol can inevitably react with your medication and can damage its potency.
What are the dangers associated with the concomitant use of Diflucan and alcohol?
The concomitant use of Diflucan and alcohol can result in unfavourable therapeutic responses from your medication (1). According to research studies, alcohol can reduce the amount of Diflucan absorbed in your bloodstream and can make the drug less effective.
Diflucan is an antifungal medication and its inefficacy during an ongoing fungal infection in your body can significantly worsen your condition. Concomitant alcohol consumption with Diflucan can also increase the risk of side effects of this medication, such as dizziness, drowsiness, and nausea.
This combination can also affect your health if you are also taking other prescription medications. Diflucan can interact with other meds, and consuming alcohol while taking Diflucan may increase the risk of these interactions.
This is why it’s best to avoid drinking alcohol while you’re being treated with this antifungal medication. Alcohol should generally be avoided with antimicrobials, including antibiotics like Ciprofloxacin, Clindamycin, Cefnidir, etc and antivirals like Ledipasvir and Sofosbuvir.
What to do if you have taken Diflucan and alcohol together?
Taking Diflucan and alcohol once or twice together will most likely not do any significant damage, however, if you continue to do so, it will severely affect the process of your recovery from the ongoing fungal infection in your body.
However, if you do feel that your infection is still as intense as it was prior to starting the course of Diflucan and you have been drinking alcohol all this time, reach out to your healthcare provider as soon as you can.
Final words
To sum up, you should wait for at least 2-3 days after your treatment with Diflucan before you start drinking alcohol. It might be difficult for you to control your alcohol intake, but your health is worth every effort you make.
Your body is already down when it’s trying to fight an active microbial infection. Consuming alcohol would weaken it even more. So it’s best to avoid drinking alcohol while taking Diflucan.
