Can Vyvanse make you tired? (+3 times it does)

Can Vyvanse make you tired?

Vyvanse (Lisdexamfetamine) may make you feel tired. Although the drug is an Amphetamine – a CNS stimulant – it may make some people feel tired and exhausted. There are a number of reported case studies which explain three different types of tiredness caused by Vyvanse.

Types of Vyvance-induced tiredness

Vyvanse can cause three types of tiredness, which are commonly reported by people taking this medication. These are:

  • Tiredness right after taking the medication
  • Over-excitation followed by tiredness and exhaustion
  • Tiredness when the effects of the drug start to wear off (Vyvanse Crash)

Tiredness right after taking the medication

If you’re feeling tired right after taking the medication, it could be a rare side effect of Vyvanse. Although this goes against the normal mechanism of action of Vyvanse, this could be a possibility because of different responses of people to this medication.

CNS stimulation can cause tiredness in some people without even feeling excitement at first. The side effect, however, is expected to subside once your body adjusts to the medication.

Over-excitation followed by tiredness and exhaustion

Some people may get overly excited right after taking Vyvanse. In such cases, it’s common for people to feel tired and exhausted after the episode of over-excitation and it is expected to fade away as your body gets used to the medication.

Tiredness when the effects of the drug start to wear off (Vyvanse Crash)

It is one of the common side effects of Vyvanse to feel tired and exhausted as the effects of the medication start to wear off. This is because Vyvanse is a CNS stimulant and it increases your mental alertness as well as your energy levels.

People feel fresh and different when they are under the influence of Vyvanse. Once the concentration of the drug starts to decline, the energy and high mental alertness associated with it start to fade away and a feeling of tiredness, sadness, and exhaustion begins to take over.

This is commonly known as Vyvanse Crash and the feeling goes away when you take your next Vyvanse dose. This is one of the biggest reasons why people get addicted to Amphetamines (2).

What to do if Vyvanse makes you feel tired?

If Vyvanse makes you feel excessively tired, reach out to your healthcare provider. Stimulants can sometimes make people feel sleepy or tired, although they are known to increase mental alertness.

Amphetamines are not easy medications and it’s extremely easy to get addicted to them. In the case of Vyvanse crash, people may start to misuse the medication by taking more than their doctor prescribed.

This is why it’s best to report your side effects to your healthcare provider and not make any changes to your prescription on your own.
