Does Xarelto cause weight gain?

Does Xarelto cause weight gain?

No, Xarelto is not associated with weight gain. This side effect was not reported in any of the clinical trials performed prior to the release of Xarelto in the market. When the drug was released, people experienced a whole lot of side effects, but weight gain was not that common.

People who had gained weight had some other factors that contributed to the weight gain like poor diet, lack of exercise, metabolic diseases, etc.

Several studies, however, have indicated that Xarelto can make you lose weight, not because the drug has anything to do with your body’s fat-burning processes, but because it can cause side effects that can affect your overall health and can make you weak.

What to do if Xarelto makes you gain weight?

As we have just discussed, weight gain is not a common side effect of Xarelto. If your case is one of the rare cases, you should immediately consult your healthcare provider.

Your doctor may suggest some blood tests to rule out any underlying disease that may contribute to your weight gain, without you even knowing about it.

Once the exact cause is diagnosed, your doctor will guide you accordingly. Do not stop taking Xarelto or start taking any other medication without your doctor’s approval.

What side effects are common with Xarelto use?

Xarelto (Rivaroxaban) may not commonly cause weight gain or other unusual side effects like hair loss, but it is associated with some other side effects. These include:

  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Swelling in the hands or feet
  • Muscle pain

Rare but serious side effects of Xarelto may include:

  • Severe bleeding, which can be fatal
  • Allergic reactions (such as rash, itching, hives, swelling of the face/tongue/throat)
  • Blood clots or stroke, especially if the medication is stopped suddenly
  • Liver damage or liver failure
  • Low platelet count (thrombocytopenia)

It is important to note that not everyone who uses Xarelto will experience these side effects, and some side effects may be more severe than others. It’s crucial to reach out to your doctor right away if you develop any of these symptoms while taking Xarelto.

Additionally, it’s crucial to consult your doctor before starting any new medication to ensure that it is both safe and effective for you to take.
