Does Vimpat cause weight loss as a side effect?

Does Vimpat cause weight loss as a side effect?

Yes, Vimpat may cause weight loss as a side effect. This side effect is reported in some individuals. However, studies show that Vimpat-induced weight loss is somewhat dose related.

People who are at a higher dose may begin to lose more weight as compared to people who are at lower doses, who may not lose weight at all. However, Vimpat may also cause weight gain in some people. Make sure you monitor your side effects properly and report them to your healthcare provider.

How does Vimpat cause weight loss?

The exact mechanism through which Vimpat causes weight loss is not completely known. However, studies have shown that Vimpat can cause some gastrointestinal side effects which may make eating undesirable for some people.

If the side effects persist, such people end up losing weight. Some other studies have also revealed that prolonged use of Vimpat on higher doses can cause general weakness and it may slow down your metabolism to some extent, which can make you lose weight.

What to do if Vimpat makes you lose weight?

The first and the most important thing to do if Vimpat makes you gain weight is to talk to your healthcare provider. Only your doctor can determine the exact cause of your weight loss and if it’s safe for you to continue using Vimpat or not.

If yes, then your doctor may adjust your dose a little to help you with the weight loss. However, your doctor may switch you to another medication if dose reduction does not help you with your weight loss. Vimpat may also rarely cause hair loss.

Important tips to help you stay at a healthier body weight

There are a few tips that can help you get back to a healthier body weight while being treated with Vimpat. These include:

  • Consume liquid calories. They are the best ways to provide your body with nutrients when you don’t find yourself hungry.
  • Eat smaller, more frequent meals.
  • Do not drink water when you’re eating. It can fill up your stomach and make you consume a lesser amount of calories.
  • Do not eat foods low in nutrients and high in calories.
  • Eat wholesome foods, including good fats, lean protein, lighter carbs, high-fibre foods, and whole grains.
  • Always pay extra attention to your breakfast. It’s the most important meal of the day.
