Does Stelara cause hair loss?

Does Stelara cause hair loss?

No, Stelara (Ustekinumab) does not cause hair loss. It was not reported as one of the side effects of this immunosuppressive medication. Stelara is prescribed for the treatment of psoriasis in both adults and children and for the treatment and management of ulcerative colitis.

People who have been taking this medication did not report hair loss as a side effect, neither common nor rare. If you’re losing hair and you think Stelara is the one causing it, talk to your healthcare provider.

There could be underlying factors responsible for your hair thinning or hair loss and your doctor will help you determine the best possible way to prevent this. Make sure you don’t stop or start using any medication without your doctor’s approval.

What side effects are common with Stelara?

Stelara, although it does not cause hair loss, is associated with some side effects – ranging from mild to severe. (1,2)

What to do if you are experiencing hair loss while taking Stelara?

If you are experiencing hair loss while taking Stelara, it’s important to remember that the medication itself does not typically cause this side effect. However, if you notice significant hair loss or any changes in your hair pattern, it’s best to consult with your healthcare provider.

They can evaluate your situation and determine if there are any underlying factors contributing to hair loss. They may consider other potential causes such as underlying medical conditions, stress, hormonal changes, or medication interactions.

Your healthcare provider may recommend further investigations or refer you to a dermatologist or specialist for a more comprehensive evaluation.
