Does Creon cause weight loss?

Does Creon cause weight loss?

No, Creon does not cause weight loss. In fact, this pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy can help reverse the weight loss caused by your chronic pancreatic insufficiency.

Such people are not usually able to digest and absorb nutrients properly. This leads to weight loss. Pancreatic insufficiency can also be linked to other dangerous diseases like cancer, which can make you lose a significant amount of weight.

Creon can replenish your pancreatic enzymes which enhances the process of digestion and absorption. When your body starts to accept the nutrients, you may gain some of the weight back

If you continue to lose weight, talk to your healthcare provider about it. There must be another cause of your weight and only your doctor can determine it.

What side effects are common with Creon?

Creon may not cause weight loss, but it is associated with some other side effects. These include (1):

  • Abdominal pain
  • Diarrhoea
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Flatulence
  • Constipation
  • Cough
  • Sneezing
  • Runny nose
  • Dizziness

Serious side effects that may require immediate medical attention include:

  • Severe or persistent abdominal pain
  • Severe or persistent diarrhoea or vomiting
  • Signs of allergic reaction such as rash, hives, itching, swelling, difficulty breathing, or tightness in the chest
  • Signs of high blood uric acid levels such as joint pain, swelling, redness, or stiffness
  • Signs of a pancreatitis flare-up such as severe abdominal pain that may radiate to the back, nausea, vomiting, fever, or chills

It is important to note that Creon may not cause these side effects in every other individual and some people may experience side effects that are not mentioned in the above list. People are different and can respond differently to medications.

Patient-specific factors like age, weight, dosage strength, concomitant use of other medications, any underlying health conditions, and overall genetics can make a difference. This is why it’s important to closely monitor your side effects and report them to your healthcare provider.
