Does Clindamycin show up on a drug test?

Does Clindamycin show up on a drug test?

No, Clindamycin does not show up on a drug test. Clindamycin is an antibiotic and it is not something usual drug tests are focused on. Antibiotics are not considered controlled substances and they are not included in the panel of drugs to be tested.

Clindamycin is also not known for causing a false positive for any drug of abuse. So, if you’re being treated with Clindamycin and you have a drug test coming up, don’t worry! It is highly unlikely for Clindamycin to cause a false positive or make you fail a drug test.

However, it’s best to inform the drug testing authority about the medications you’re currently taking. False positive results of drug tests are common with urine immunoassays, which are considered preliminary drug testing procedures.

Make sure you don’t leave your Clindamycin treatment halfway. Antibiotics should be taken properly to achieve the best possible therapeutic outcome.

How to generally avoid getting a false positive on your drug test?

You may not be able to avoid a false positive while taking a medication that may cause that, especially when going for a urine drug immunoassay as the detection method.

However, you can inform the drug testing authorities about any medication that is known for cross-reacting with the testing procedure and giving a false positive. This way, you will not get in trouble for that false result.

However, there are some authentic testing procedures – that might be more costly than the preliminary urine drug test. More accurate procedures which are used as confirmatory tests, like Gas Chromatography – Mass spectroscopy are not associated with causing a false positive (1).
