Dr Milena has served as a Clinical Pharmacist, providing expert supervision and guidance to teams during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in the ICUs of two reference hospitals for patient hospitalization.
In her most recent role, Dr Milena worked on the implementation of the deliberatives of the São Paulo State Government Pharmaceutical Assistance Coordination. These decisions were aimed at ensuring medication access within the Unified Health System.

Can you take Sudafed and Amoxicillin together?
Yes, you can take Sudafed and Amoxicillin at the same time. Sudafed contains Pseudoephedrine, a nasal decongestant (1). Amoxicillin is an antibiotic (2). Both of these meds are entirely different in terms of chemical combination and work in opposite ways.
They are absolutely safe to use together since they don’t cause additive side effects. In fact, studies have indicated that the use of Sudafed can manage your symptoms associated with sinusitis more effectively and sinusitis is often treated by Amoxicillin (1,2).
So it’s absolutely okay to pair these two together. Phenylephrine, another nasal decongestant, is also safe to take with Amoxicillin. It is available in the market as Sudafed PE.
Potential benefits of taking Sudafed and Amoxicillin together
The combination of Sudafed and Amoxicillin can provide relief from symptoms like stuffy nose, sinus pressure, and congestion, while also targeting the underlying bacterial infection (1,2). By addressing both the congestion and the infection, the individual may experience improved breathing and overall comfort.
Potential risks of taking Sudafed and Amoxicillin together
There are also potential risks to consider when taking the combination of Sudafed and Amoxicillin. Both medications can cause side effects, such as headache, dizziness, and gastrointestinal disturbances. Taking them together may increase the likelihood of experiencing these side effects (1,2).
Additionally, Sudafed can elevate blood pressure, so individuals with hypertension or heart conditions should use it with caution, or consult their healthcare provider before taking it with Amoxicillin. However, Amoxicillin is not known for increasing blood pressure per se.

In conclusion, Sudafed and Amoxicillin can be taken together safely to manage symptoms of congestion and sinusitis while treating the underlying bacterial infection.
