However, it is important to note that not all patients may face such withdrawal symptoms after stopping Viibryd cold turkey. some patients may be severely affected by these side effects while others may not depending upon the dose and response to Viibryd. 

What are the ways to avoid stopping Viibryd cold turkey?

Following are some ways to stop taking Viibryd without facing any withdrawal symptoms (2):

  • The first and foremost step to avoid stopping Viibryd cold turkey, is to consult your healthcare provider. If you feel like switching or stopping Viibryd, then you must contact your doctor regarding this issue. 
  • The safest way to avoid stopping Viibryd cold turkey is by tapering off its dose. Follow a tapering schedule provided by your doctor that gradually reduces the dosage over time. 
  • Fast tapering can be followed if you are taking low doses of Viibryd. Patients should be ensured that the withdrawal symptoms are not life-threatening and usually self-limiting. 
  • In most cases, switching to fluoxetine might be helpful when considering stopping any antidepressant. 
  • However, it is important to note that tapering must not be required in cases where the medication is started for less than 4 weeks until your doctor suggests.

In my opinion as a pharmacist, you must not stop taking Viibryd cold turkey. Discontinuing Viibryd cold turkey may lead to potential risks and adverse effects. 

Therefore, if you feel that Viibryd is not alleviating or managing your symptoms, then you must consider seeking medical help. Follow your doctor’s schedule of dose tapering to avoid potential withdrawal effects by stopping Viibryd cold turkey.
