Can you get high on Lidocaine patches?

Can you get high on Lidocaine patches?

No, you can not get high on Lidocaine patches. Short-term euphoria is usually observed after intravenous administration of Lidocaine. Using a patch won’t get you high or induce euphoria because the drug is slowly released into your bloodstream and does not produce a systemic effect.

Lidocaine, in general, is non-narcotic and is not considered a substance of abuse. Intravenous euphoria on Lidocaine also doesn’t last long and it fades away when your body adjusts to the medication.

Make sure you don’t overuse this medication for the sake of getting high. Overusing meds can cause a number of side effects and it’s not something you should ever do.

As far as Lidocaine patches are concerned, they will not get you high, no matter how long you leave them on.

How is Lidocaine different from the typical drugs that get you high?

Lidocaine is quite different from the drugs that get you high. It is a local anaesthetic that is frequently used in minor surgeries and for pain relief. Lidocaine does not affect your body the way most controlled drugs do and it does not show up on a drug test like such drugs.

It is not classified as a controlled substance by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and does not have a high potential for abuse or addiction. Lidocaine when injected systemically may make some people feel a little euphoric.

However, Lidocaine patches are far from producing such an effect because the majority of the active drug stays on the site of application and produces a local effect. It does not get absorbed into your systemic circulation in higher amounts.

Can Lidocaine patches cause side effects?

Lidocaine patches may cause some side effects. These include:

  • Skin irritation, such as redness, itching, or a rash
  • Burning or stinging sensation at the application site
  • Numbness or tingling at the application site
  • Allergic reactions, such as hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat (rare)

Make sure you properly monitor the side effects if you are using Lidocaine for the first time. Some people could be allergic to this medication, which can cause disturbing side effects. If you are concerned about anything, please reach out to your healthcare provider.
