Is it safe to take collagen supplements with Eliquis?
Yes, you can safely take Collagen supplements while you’re being treated with Eliquis. Since Collagen is not a medication with an active chemical drug and it’s just a source of protein, it doesn’t interact with the majority of medications.
Eliquis is no exception. This medication is an anticoagulant which can interact with a huge number of medications, but certainly not with Collagen. It’s always best to make sure your medications and supplements have no possibility of interacting or interfering with one another.
As far as using Collagen and Eliquis together is concerned, go ahead. There’s nothing to be worried about.
What medications interact with Eliquis (Apixaban)?
Eliquis interacts with a number of medications because of how it works and affects your body. Common classes of medications that interact with Eliquis include (1):
- Antiplatelet medications – such as Aspirin, Clopidogrel, Ticagrelor, and Prasugrel.
- Anticoagulants – such as warfarin, heparin, enoxaparin, and dabigatran.
- Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) – such as Ibuprofen, Naproxen, and Aspirin.
- Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) – such as Fluoxetine, Sertraline, Duloxetine, and Venlafaxine.
- Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors – such as Ketoconazole, Itraconazole, Ritonavir, and Clarithromycin.
- Strong CYP3A4 inducers – such as Rifampin, Carbamazepine, and Phenytoin.
Important point
Some people may take Collagen supplements for joint pain. It is important to mention here that OTC painkillers like NSAIDs should not be taken with Eliquis because of the risk of disturbing side effects.
