Yes, Primidone may cause weight loss in some people. It is not that frequently reported, but we have seen such case studies in which people struggled with significant weight gain. 

If you’re taking Primidone and you’re losing a lot of weight, you need to talk to your healthcare provider right away. Rapid weight loss is not a good sign and it makes your body extremely weak.

If you’re losing weight on Primidone at a concerning rate, you can do a few things. These include:

Consult your healthcare provider 

As we have discussed earlier, talking to your healthcare provider should be the first thing you do if you suffer from Primidone-induced weight loss. It is not likely for Primidone to cause a significant amount of weight loss in a very short span of time, but it might. 

If you’re one of the unfortunate people who lose a lot of weight on this medication, only your doctor can tell you if it’s okay for you to continue taking this medication or not. If not, your doctor will switch you to another medication with a lesser potential for weight loss. 

Consume liquid calories 

As loss of appetite is the main side effect that is linked with weight loss, eating becomes extremely undesirable. This is why it is best to increase your calorie intake in the form of liquid. 

It will be easier to consume as compared to solid foods. You can try drinking soup, bone broth, milkshakes, smoothies, fresh juices, etc. 

Make sure you’re not sleep deprived 

Sleep deprivation is deeply linked with your body weight. A healthy human body needs to sleep for at least 7 to 9 hours every night, according to research. When you don’t sleep enough, your body is affected negatively and it responds in a number of ways. 

Some people begin to feel weak, lethargic, and lesser hungry each day. This can cause weight loss and severe mood disturbances. However, some people may begin to eat more because of their disturbed mood and may end up gaining weight.
