From her undergraduate studies to her Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Pharmacy, Dr Natália Marcéli Stephanes has participated in numerous scientific studies in the field of oncology and onco-hematology at the University Hospital of the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil. Her research has focused on understanding the molecular and biochemical bases of malignant neoplasms and investigating safer and more effective therapeutic alternatives.
Dr Natália Marcéli Stephanes has also served as an assistant professor of haematology for undergraduate students at the Federal University of Santa Catarina. Additionally, she held the position of professor of Hospital Pharmacy at the Qualificar Technical School in Brazil, where she developed instructional materials for use in the Pharmacy Postgraduate Program at the Leonardo Da Vinci University Center.

Does liquid Albuterol expire?
Yes, liquid Albuterol does have an expiry date printed on the packaging. Albuterol does not necessarily become toxic to inhale once it expires, but the drug loses its potency and it does not deliver the desired therapeutic response.
This is why the FDA has recommended that it is best to stay away from expired medications as they have no guarantee regarding their safety and efficacy (1).

Expired liquid Albuterol does not pose a health risk, but it will most likely lead to therapeutic failure. This medication can also loosen mucus in the lungs to help improve breathing. It is important for your Albuterol to be fully potent. This medication can be life-saving in certain cases and one should never rely on expired medication to help adequately.

Expired liquid Albuterol will not harm your health so you don’t have to worry if you have used some. However, you should talk to your healthcare provider and get a new prescription as the expired one will not help you with your condition.
