Can you take two Claritin a day?

You can take two Claritin in one day if you’re taking 5 mg per dose. Claritin is available in two strengths – 5 mg and 10 mg. The maximum adult dose for this anti-allergy medication is 10 mg per day. That indicates two things:

  • It is absolutely safe to take two 5 mg Claritin tablets a day since one 5 mg tablet lasts 12 hours and the other dose is required to cover you for the day.
  • If you’re taking a 10 mg dose, taking two will double the maximum adult dose and it is not generally recommended.

Are two 10 mg Claritin doses dangerous?

As I just stated, the maximum adult dose for Claritin is 10 mg and it is usually not recommended to go beyond that, taking two 10 mg Claritin will not significantly affect your health or cause dangerous side effects.

According to some research studies, 40 mg of Claritin can be used safely in certain allergic reactions. However, there isn’t much evidence regarding the safety of high doses of Claritin in clinical settings and it’s best to not use more than 10 mg of Claritin per day.

Potential side effects of taking two Claritin in a day

Claritin is generally associated with some side effects, which may not affect you. However, taking two Claritin and exceeding the maximum daily dose can increase the risk of these side effects. These include:

  • Headache
  • Dry mouth
  • Fatigue
  • Drowsiness
  • Nausea
  • Stomach pain
  • Diarrhoea
  • Sore throat
  • Eye redness

This is why it is important to make sure that you do not exceed the recommended dose. If you don’t find one dose of Calfritin enough to help your condition, please reach out to your healthcare provider.
