Can you cut Meloxicam in half?
Yes, you can cut Meloxicam in half. In fact, some Meloxicam tablets are scored to help you split the tablet into two equal halves. However, it’s always best to ask your doctor or pharmacist if you can split your Meloxicam tablets in half.
Generally, this NSAID is available in an immediate-release dosage form which can be easily divided. Even if your tablets are not scored, you can split them with a sharp pill cutter. However, you need to make sure that you split Meloxicam into two equal halves to maintain dose uniformity.
It is always best to ask your pharmacist if your Meloxicam tablets are not coated, as coated tablets should not be split in half.
Alternatives to cutting Meloxicam
If you can’t consume the entire tablet of Meloxicam, this medication is also available as orally disintegrating tablets that you can simply dissolve in water and drink.
Ask your pharmacist if he/she can replace your Meloxicam tablets with disintegrating tablets or oral Meloxicam suspension, if available. This way, you won’t have to cut the tablets and you can safely take Meloxicam in liquid form(1).
