From her undergraduate studies to her Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Pharmacy, Dr Natália Marcéli Stephanes has participated in numerous scientific studies in the field of oncology and onco-hematology at the University Hospital of the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil. Her research has focused on understanding the molecular and biochemical bases of malignant neoplasms and investigating safer and more effective therapeutic alternatives.
Dr Natália Marcéli Stephanes has also served as an assistant professor of haematology for undergraduate students at the Federal University of Santa Catarina. Additionally, she held the position of professor of Hospital Pharmacy at the Qualificar Technical School in Brazil, where she developed instructional materials for use in the Pharmacy Postgraduate Program at the Leonardo Da Vinci University Center.
In addition to her academic experiences, Dr Natália Marcéli Stephanes possesses a strong expertise in commercial pharmacy, with in-depth knowledge of medications, their routes of administration, desired effects, adverse effects, and toxicity.

Can you cut Eliquis in half?
Yes, you can cut Eliquis (Apixaban) in half. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Eliquis tablets are safe to crush and you can add them to glucose solution, apple juice, or applesauce for ease of administration.
This usually happens because some people may find it difficult to swallow the tablets whole and some may try to reduce the dose.
Risks of cutting Eliquis in half
The biggest concern with cutting Eliquis tablets in half is to make sure you’re cutting them into two equal halves and that you’re protecting them well against moisture.
Eliquis tablets are film-coated, which protects them from the damage that moisture penetration may cause. Film-coating also helps mask the bitter taste of the drug, which may otherwise become quite unpleasant.
If you’re cutting these tablets, you need to make sure that you’re taking it immediately, and placing the other half in a secure place to protect it from moisture.
How to ensure the safe use of crushed Eliquis tablets?
If you have decided to crush your Eliquis tablets, you need to do it right away. The first and most important thing to make sure of is to never store crushed tablets for later use. Crush as much as you need to take in a single dose and right when you’re about to take it.
The next dose should be crushed when it’s time for your next dose and not before that. It’s not safe to consume crushed Eliquis 3-4 hours after mixing it with juice or liquid.
