Can you use AndroGel past the expiration date?

Can you use AndroGel past the expiration date?

It is not recommended to use AndroGel past the expiration date. An expired AndroGel has no guarantee and there’s no way to tell if it will show any therapeutic response whatsoever.

AndroGel is a testosterone gel which is a hormone. Hormonal preparations are not that stable and they should be avoided after they have expired.

What are the possible dangers associated with the use of expired AndroGel?

An expired AndroGel is not associated with any physical harm. However, it will not work either. AndroGel loses its potency once it’s past the expiration date and no matter how much you apply, you will not see a promising therapeutic outcome.

What is the purpose of using a med that doesn’t work? This is why the FDA recommends using unexpired medications as expired ones are not even guaranteed by the manufacturers (1).

What to do if you have used expired AndroGel?

If you have used expired AndroGel, don’t worry. It won’t harm your skin. It’s best to revisit your healthcare provider to talk about your current symptoms and get a new prescription.
